Joyce was in the W.A.A.F. for almost 4 years but she had to wait until she was old enough before she could join. She was an Aircraft Fabric Worker based at Huntingdon and Duxford working on Mosquitos. She repaired damage on aircraft frames with dope and put new fabric on the wings and the undercarriage. Her job was quite distasteful as the smell of the dope was quite overpowering.
Sadly she lost her brother in a Blenheim Bomber over the coast of Holland, whose grave is unknown in the sea. This worried her very much.
She left the R.A.F. as a Warrant Officer which she gained in 1941.
