We had an allowance of good food for the nurseries and all the children were well fed. Cod liver oil and orange juice were given each morning and any medicines that they required. The medical officer came in each week to see any cases which we could not deal with and all the heads were tooth combed every day. When necessary children were changed into nursery clothes and in dire cases we gave them clothes. Later in the war we had some wonderful supplies from Canada — 7lbs of drinking chocolate and strawberry jam with real strawberries in it — not turnips and wood chips, amongst other things
