Everything was rationed, on coupons, so you went along, getting a little bit off everybody until you had plenty to eat. There was a lady who had a greengrocery, who gave me butties and tomatoes. The dress was white with a three foot veil, and all y coupons were gone because I had bridesmaids as well. We had a hall, all the neighbours brought food and my mum and all our friends did all the catering. My wedding cake had no icing on, so I had a cardboard top on it. But we had a fine time, it was like one big party, there must have been over 150 there. We had everybody from the St Johns first aid post and we had the Civil Defence Band. My uncle was M.C. and we had a real good spread. We didn’t finish until 11 o’clock at night when they all went home, and the girls said they walked home in their stocking feet, they were that tired.
