I remember being at Secombe ferry and everybody dancing, singing, the Secombe clock chiming in the hour, people who you didn鈥檛 know very well would come up to you and hug you, people were throwing ribbons around, some people were crying. It was a good reason for everyone to get dressed up, mum bathed us all before we went down to Seacombe ferry. I remember mum rushing us all down there. Some soldiers were there on leave. There was seven of us, six at the time; my sister being born in 1946. You were all scattered talking to people. The next day there was a party in Priory road with a big long table. It doesn鈥檛 seem that long ago.
