My Great Grandad was a POW in Changi Prison he was captured shortly after arriving in japan and was there for the duration. He lived on a bowl of rice a day, but on the odd occasion a kindly child would pass him through an egg. He worked on the Burma Railway with hundreds of other men.
Before going to war my granndad was a chauffeur and when Lord Mountbatten signed the treaty that ended the war in japan he asked my grandad to drive him through the streets so he could see the crowds. My family has a picture of this and a letter from Lord Mountbatten thanking him for his services.
My grandad was always ready to tell us his war stories and he is greatly missed. x
