In 1940 I was at a convent in Blackburn, Lancs. One day we were told to bring a suitcase to school with all our belongings in just in case the country was invaded. If that happened we were to be put on trains and taken to another part of the country, but luckily that never happened.
My father was an air raid warden and one night he told us to look out of our window and we could see Liverpool in flames after being bombed, Liverpool was 30 miles away!
My mother was in the WVS and she had to meet a train coming from Liverpool full of children that had been sent away because of the terrible bombings in Liverpool and she had the job of finding homes for all of them
