I never met my Grandfather (my mother's father), as I was born in 1952.
I only know that he worked for the Co-op in Liverpool, looking after the horses they used for pulling the various delivery carts.
He had served in the First World War, spending some time on the Western Front, looking after the horses used for drawing artillery and other vehicles.
He was killed cycling home during the Blitz. Struck by shrapnel, it is not certain whether he was the victim of a German bomb or part of a British anti-aircraft shell.
