This is a story from Mary Fletcher (nee Jones) who was a cook in the WAAFs at RAF Bruntingthorp during the war.
Not a lot of a story to tell, really - was going on duty to the cookhouse one evening when we hear this horrible noise and a Wellington bomber (we used to call them Wimpeys) landed. It must have been badly damaged from operations and it burst into flames.
The crew dealt with the emergency and we went to work as usual.
