In November 1944 I was operating a printing machine in the secreterial department at commer cars sudendly everthing went black and the whole building rocked. I thought the machine had exploded so I switched it of. Then i realised the darkness was caused by the blackout blinds falling down over the windows. I went to look for my collegues they were in the stock room and were covered by sationary etc... which had fallen from the shelves. I helped them to find friends and relatives and then went home to tell my parents I was safe. On returning to work to help clear up I discovered that a row of houses next to the factory had been demolished as had the canteen and part of the factory. The explosion had been caused by the first V2 rocket to fall on Britian. About 19 people were killed it would have been more had the canteen been in use at the time. These rockets came silently and gave no warning unlike the V1 rockets which had an engine which cut out just before falling.
