This story has been written onto the 大象传媒 People鈥檚 War site by CSV Story gatherer Jessica on behalf of Connie Beer. They fully understand the terms and conditions of the site.
My late husband - Fred Beer - was called up and was sent to North Africa with General Alexander鈥檚 14th Army. He was with another soldier who was manning their machine gun. He was killed by a direct hit machine gun bullet but my husband鈥檚 metal glasses case saved himself. It hit his case right by his heart and ricochetted down through his ribs. He crawled into a gully and was luckily picked up by one of out tanks and taken back to a field hospital.
