Ok my grandfather was a sargent in Dunkirk. He was ordered to attack with no retreat. And if someone fell to leave them. While he was running with his troops a shell fell a few meters away. And not being injured by it he remembered what his uncle tom had told him about the 14-18 war."A shell doesnt fall esaclly in the same place twice." So he made a run for that hole and funny enough a shell whent in the same place and he got some of it. A bit in his leg and his chest got some metal. (One piece was never removed because it was too close to his hart.) Anyway he got hit and was trying to figure out his options when 2 of his troop came running back. And dispite the no retreat order and not to help the wounded his mates picked him up and carried him back about a mile or 2 and then gave up. Left him on a streacher apoligized to him them and ran for the boat. Now of course my grandfather not wanting to stay on this streacher he started to crawl toward the boat. When a kind Large Scotbuard picked him up and carried him toward the boat. A couple of ten yards away from the boat the scots guard got tired and put him down again. He then crawled on the boat and had a small fat sargent punch him and make him fill the machine gun. Of course during all this boms where flying everywhere the planes where coming machine gunning ect.. The boat started leaving with my grandfather filling the machine gun for the fat sargent. Than a flash of light and he said the sargents belly was open and his insides where shaking back and fourth like jelly. Than another flash and he found himself drifting on a piece of the ship. Being tired and losing alot of blood he fell asleep got picked up and woke up in Dover. After Dunkirk he was shiped to Northan Ireland, Cairo, Brugge, Germany and Saint Tropez. I'll remember and write more about wat he said to me in the future. He passed away sadley this christmas.
