Interservice rugby matches were organised by the Army Rugby Club Secretary in Singapore in 1945/6, Assistant Provost Marshal Edward Robertson. He had a pool of pre-war national and international players. A few had been professional and had played Rugby League before the War. The Rugby Union were threatening to bar any Rugby Union players who played in a match with Rugby League players from ever playing Rugby Union when they got back home. Ted Robertson advised the RU, disgusted at their attitude, that the men who fought together would play together, and the RU had no business operating with that kind of attitude with good men who had won the war enabling them to play at all. The RU stepped down and the matches were played.
Ted is now 81.
