"This story was submitted to the People's War site by Gill Mason of the County Heritage Team on behalf of Mr John Bolton and has been added to the site with his permission. He fully understands the site's terms and conditions".
Mr Bolton was born and raised in Banbury Oxfordshire. He joined the RAF at 18 and was just about to go on Operations when the War ended. He started as a pilot on Wellingtons and finished as a rear gunner on Lankesters. When the war ended he wanted to attend an Officers Course but missed this and was instead sent to Singapore. He joined the motor transport section and transported building materials for rebuilding roads. He stayed in the RAF for another six months, finishing as a Flight Sergeant at Cranwell (where he vividly remembers the switching of Sergeants and Officers rations!) He moved with his parents to Felixstowe after the war and took a job as a representative. He describes himself as a specialist in avoiding trouble. He still lives in Felixstowe with his wife.
