This story was submitted to the People's War site by Shankill Library on behalf of Mrs Sarah Hill, nee Barnes, and has been added to the site with her permission.

I served in the WAAF during the war, based at Aldergrove. I was delighted when I learned to drive while in the WAAF and then served as a driver. I met my husband during the war while he was working as a crane driver at Aldergrove after coming back from the Air Force. Later my husband served in South Africa.
