I was four years old when the Second World War broke out, and attended Wyvern Avenue Infants School in Leicester.
Going to school one morning about 8.30 am. the siren sounded, the Avenue was full of children and parents, there was nowhere to shelter.
Suddenly all the front doors opened and we were beckoned into the house. This happened both side of the street. Within minutes the street was empty.
A lone German plane came over. Shortly afterward the 'All Clear' sounded.
I was only six years at the time. I am now in my sixties and rememberit very clearly.
