In about 1941 I worked in the PX canteen at Earls Colne Airfield. My job was to look after the American girls that were in the US Air Force. I generally tidied up after and make sure their rooms were clean.

I had been working full time at Crittalls but had got married and found that looking after a home and a husband as well was getting too much for me. So I was very happy when I managed to get this part time job at the Base.

I worked there for about 18 months and felt as though I was doing something for the War effort and stayed until the Americans moved on.
