I use to watch Doddlebugs come over my house when I was fourteen years old.
These are flying bombs that would drop from the sky when their fuel ran out, and devastate whatever was below.
When I saw my first one, which was at night in Brixton in London I thought it was a plane on fire.
One day I saw one going over and instead of going straight down as they normally did, it veered left and headed straight for me. Luckily it landed in the street next to me.
I flat myself against the wall and the blast shattered the window of the pub across the road from me.
