I was married in 1937 and was eight months pregnant when the war started, living in Harrow on the Hill. My husband was an air raid warden and was often out at night checking that there were no lights showing. One night when the bombs started to fall I got under the bed for safety and got stuck because of my pregnant bump. I had to wait for a friend to come to lift the bed up to release me. My baby was born in a nursing home, a little girl called Ann.
My brother served in the Marines, one night when he was staying on the floor there was a bomb and the water tank burst and surrounded him with water and he slept on until awakened.
Before I had my family I would cycle to work at Kodak and once fell off in the snow. My husband was in front and didn鈥檛 ever know. I was widowed in 1998 and then moved to Norwich to be near my daughter.
