Not so amusing was the incident when I received the order to steer the ship into the wind for the purpose of allowing the aircraft to land safely. The order "Hard-a-Port" was suddenly changed to "Hard-a-Starboard." I immediately released the wheel that spun back and hit me on the chin, knocking me backwards. I tried to hand the wheel over to someone nearby who failed to appreciate my predicament but I ended up gritting my teeth and carried on, trying to ignore the pain. The officer who had changed his mind in time was unaware of this and the planes were landed safely.
