The day I remember my dad was cobbling his shoes. We went out for the day at my uncles. We were walking along the road and we heard teh sirens. We heard the V2 rocket come over and we ran for teh railway bridge. The V2 obliterated a whole two turnings of houses and through the blast of it exploding I got thrown from one side of the road to the other. We just got out before the bridge collapsed. My dad went to the houses and helped bring people out - including a horse with its head split in half. As we were going home the german bombers were flying over dropping stick bombs (incendiary bombs) and one hit the cinema and it caught on fire. We decided to go and see if they were ok. We got home and the sirens went again. A bomb fell about 500 yards away from the house and blew the windows in. I got covered in glass. I shook myself down and went into the shelter. I was glad when the war was over. My mum worked in a brewery and my dad was an ARP warden. I used to feed his pigs. I grew up all of a sudden.
