In January 1945 I was 3 and a quarter years old. I was playing in the lounge trying to put buttons under each leg of a chair to see how high I could get it. At that moment a V2 rocket landed 200 yards away and it blew the whole wall and window down on me. I was lucky to receive just a severe cut on my upper lip which healed with just a scar. My mother came though the bedroom floor into the lounge. As the floors collapsed my friend next door was killed by the blast. My father was away serving with Montgomery at El Alemein and Monte Casino and came home without a scratch!
