My war was a very quiet one except for one experience which was excitingbut not fatal! The German bombers mistook our little village of Arnside in Cumbria for Barrow-in-Furness to the north of us.They dropped scores of high explosives but they all fell on moors and no one was hurt.I was at school at the time, but I helped my mother polish off what was left of our last bottle of whiskey as the house shook!
