It was March the 24th I can remember the day but the date sticks in my mind even to day. I was eight and my brother was six, and we both attended c/of/E
primary school. This was the day that Ashford expereance its worst bombing of the war, when the raid by enemy aircraft
began it was It was a [Monday] This will
will come clear as this is written. At the start when the sireins began we were led to the shelters which were in the school playing field, when we were let out some one said a plane had come down
in the playing fields ajoining ours but it was not the the plane, It was one of its crew and he was burning and we could see what was going on,Some one tried to put the fire out and somebody said let the xxx burn. A little while later my Farther came to collect my brother and myself. And on the way home we met a freind who said Stanays had been hit, this is were she worked,A lot of people worked here and also in the railway work
shops as well, they employed most of the
towns workers at this time.
AS the day wore on and listening to adult conversations,I learnt that quite a few
people had lost their lives many houses
shops schools and factorys had been hit.
But the worst of all was when I learnt that my Cousin who was just fourteen was
one of those that was killed in [Stanays]
IT was Monday, his first day at work after leaving School.
