On the day that this story was contributed at Bedford Civic Theatre, one of the volunteers from the Royal British Legion, Bob Colman remembered the same incident and it turned out that they had both been eye witnesses from neighbouring parts of London
I was at home in Wembley (mid 1944) and heard the sound of a Doodlebug-though I didn't know at the time what it was- I looked into the sky and saw what I thought was a plane on fire with another plane close behind it. The following plane tipped the tail of the first plane (the D.B) and it began to fall. It (the D.B) came down on Kenton Rec. Bob Coleman remembers this too. This was our first experience of a Doodlebug.
The pilots action had almost certainly averted more serious damage to more heavily populated areas of London
