I suppose it must have been around 1940. We had a cat which used to sleep through the bombing. I don鈥檛 know about today鈥檚 cats, can鈥檛 even cope with a few fireworks! Our cat must have been quite smart as well though, because whenever my mum got down to the shelter, the cat was always there first.
One other thing about the Anderson shelter; I remember sitting down there doing my school homework.
I also remember our next door neighbour鈥檚 daughter had a baby. One day they were all in the sitting room with the baby in front of the fire. A bomb fell a few hundred yards away, and the blast shook a huge load of soot all over the poor baby.
