Landing after Dunkirk there were all those little boats. It made a real impression on me seeing them in Ramsgate Harbour. They headed for the station. Soldiers were lying on the pavement. There were Red Cross vans. It was a scary feeling but I wanted to look.

I was evacuated to South Wales. I came back after nine months when there seemed to be as many bombs there as in the South East. There were certainly many raids on Ramsgate. We stayed in our Anderson Shelter and fortunately none of us were hit.
