I remember the day that war broke out, I was nearly five years old. My Mother was in the garden talking to the lady next door. I was in the kitchen listening to the radio. Suddenly an announcement was made, I knew it was important although I did not understand it. I went out into the garden and told my mother that something important was being said on the radio. In later years I found out that everybody had been expecting war to be declared
