Mr & Mrs Wren's visit to St John's Primary School

To Mr Wren : What were some of the bombs called? Doodlebugs.

What was the main difference between the V1 & V2 rockets? The V1 was more of a plane -like
Bomb , whereas the V2 was more of an actual rocket.

What would you look back on as a good memory of the war? Watching doodlebugs fly by!

To Mrs Wren :Who did you stay with? Mr and Mrs Sowerbutts
How long did you stay with the Sowerbutts? 6 months
Where did you stay? I stayed in a nice place called Burnley.
How old were you when you were evacuated? 9 years old
Did you make any friends? No, I was lonely as I had come with my sister's grammar school so I had no friends.

Were the people nice that you lived with? Yes they were very nice.
Did you fee11ike you weren't going to get picked? Yes I did.
Did you buy a lot of clothes? No because you had to have the same amount.
How old were you and your sister when you were evacuated? 9 and my sister was nearly 12.
Did you always get fed? Yes I was never hungry.
Did your sister make any friends? Yes but she was still homesick. Did you get any pocket money? Yes more than some people.
Did your mum come to stay with you? Yes but only twice in the whole time.
Did you stay in Burnley for Christmas? No because we were not there long enough

What was the best bit about being evacuated? Getting home. Did they have rationing at the place they were at? Yes they did.

Were you homesick? No because I had my sister with me but she felt homesick. Our mother wanted us back as my sister was really homesick.

Did you like the experiences in Burnley? Well it wasn't a bad experiences but it was fun. How did you wash?
I went down the public baths and we had our own cubicle and a big bath.
Did you like dried eggs? Yes, they tasted very nice

What was it like seeing the bombs fly over? It was exciting .
What bomb were you afraid of most? The V2.
