My Mum Emma had her family visiting one day during the war. They heard a plane approaching and ran out to the back of the house to see what it was.

As it approached, they waved at the pilot, then as it was flying over the house, they ran through the house to see it from the front door and see where it was going.

Again, they waved at the pilot!

The plane was a German one, and it turned out that the pilot had just shot down a number of people in a bus queue on Cotteridge about a mile from Mum's house.

He must have been out of ammunition, otherwise I think he would have shot at the family and I would not be here to tell the tale.
