Bad news/good news
Marise Relf tried to write to her boyfriend Bob every day but had problems because she was only given the address of the transit camp. Just before Christmas I sent Bob cigarettes and books as a Christmas present. My letter to him telling him about the present arrived quite soon but for some reason the present was delayed. Finally they arrived about a year after I had sent them as they had been following his round from camp to camp. The Sunday Express got hold of the story and was amused by the fact that the presents had taken a year to arrive. They carried a story about it. See enclosed.
I got into trouble again a second time over presents sent to Bob. He had a rather strict batman who didn鈥檛 have a great sense of humour.
One day a large envelope arrived which was clearly not the normal letter and instead looked as if it was carrying bad news. The batman rushed to find Bob to hand over the envelope. He was not amused when Bob opened the envelope and a rather scantily clad photograph of me posing on the beach fell out.鈥
