I was born in December 1939, so I was six when the war ended.
What stays in my mind is being in my mothers arms on the way to an air raid shelter when a convoy of planes flew overhead. I鈥檇 never seen anything like it before.
I can also remember going to my Grandfathers pub in Froome, which was full of American soldiers. They all gave me sweets and it was the first time that I ever saw a black man.
