I was in the RAF and when VE Day came I was in Palestine. While everyone else was celebrating we were confined to camp because of terrorists.
I remained in Palestine just north of Haifa for a further year as part of the peace keeping force and during this time we couldn鈥檛 relax at all - even on New Year鈥檚 Eve we couldn鈥檛 have a drink as we were expecting a raid on the armoury. I was out there when they bombed King David鈥檚 Hotel in Jerusalem.
I was finally demobbed in 1946.
