In 1942, as a 13 year old, I was playing with my friends. We went into an old mill on Marple Road, and in the basement found a radio covered by sacking. When I returned home, I told my father about it, and I then returned to the mill the same night. Father said that police must be informed. Upon their investigation, it was found to be a long-distance transmitting set that may have been used for sending information into Europe. It was removed by the police with thanks.
