Now open to public no price to pay
Two young girls, we were very naïve
Though quite intrigued we stepped inside
A darkened gallery so devoid of light
Unprepared for the horrors revealed
Gradually the pictures penetrated our minds
Hypnotising us to stay and look
Death’s eyes stared out from skeletal frames
Mere cadavers in filthy striped rags
We were gazing upon the living dead
With piled bones in grim pyramids
Oh God, what were we witness to
In this grotesque Dance Macabre
Two young voyeurs so ill equipped
We stumbled to the exit door
Away, away from this stifling hell
But there was still more to come
Mussolini and mistress strung up by the heels
Yet this act would make small redress
Still for us normality waited outside
Though we breathed in the new tainted air
