My great grand father Albert was called to war in 1939. He was 31 years old. He was taken prisoner in 1940 at Dunkirk. He was then taken to Stalag 17B in Austria. Conditions were tough and there was not always enough food. After a while he was transferred to a farm because the farmer had gone to war. Albert was also a farmer so he had to replace the Austrian farmer who had gone to war. It became better for Albert because it was easy for him to work on a farm and he had enough food.

He was liberated by the Russians but was afraid of them and with a friend he went to meet the Americans. He was sent back to France on the 25th of May 1945 he was now 37 years old
