What did you do in the war granny?
What did you do in the war?
Did you see bombs and guns granny,
Did you see bombs and guns?
Was it really so bad, granny?
Was it really so bad?
Yes I saw blood and guts baby,
Shriveled up flesh and bones,
People with no eyes and hands baby,
Lost-with no future or homes.
But I was young and alive ,baby,
Wanting life's frolic and fun,
Looking for action and kicks,baby
But not those you get with a gun.
I drove a truck and a van ,baby
Picking up bodies of men
Drove Papa out of his mind, baby
Frolic and fun now and then.
But it seemed that war was forever
When I look back and recall
For you ,of the time I was young, baby
Long long a time for us all.
But now I am cynical ,baby
Knowing that war is for naught
Except for the men in high places
Relishing gains they have bought,
With the blood and the guts of the young, baby
Even your Granny had some.
And -little one- I can remember
As if it was yesterday
When war was always forever
But I look back and recall
For you
Of the time I was young, baby
Long-long a time for us all.
