I was born 1/9/38The war started3/9/39.So i was only
a baby when my dad joined up.He didnt need to.Because he was in the ARP.He was only in 5 weeks
when he got sent to France with the B.E.F.He couldnt
even fire a gun properly. The Germans advanced that quick ,thats when Dunkirk happened. My dad being in the Royal Engineers .Had to stay behind,to destroyeverything. To stop them falling into German hands. When Mr Churshill gave that speech. We have evacuated 4fifths of the BEF.My dad and his mates listened toit on radio, and said we must be the bloody 1 fifth left.He came out 6 weeks later at St Nazaire. He got 2 weeks leave.thats when i saw my dad when i was 2.He bought me a big cellephane doll.
He then got sent to North Africa with the Eighth
Army.He was in the Desert Rats, and in the Battle of El -Alamain.I didnt see him again ,untill i was seven. He was awarded 4 medals.I am very proud of him.
