Louie Fowler, aged 13
Me and my friend Dorothy were evacuated from Brundnell RD School Friday 1st Sept 1939. I was a 12 year old school girl with my suitcase, gas mask and my name on a string around my neck. While we waited to get on the bus my mum started to cry as she thought we were going to Linconshire.
Miss Harrison the head mistress said,
鈥淒on鈥檛 worry love we aren鈥檛 going far.鈥
We arrived in Ilkley and went into the Kings Hall we were given a brown paper carrier with goodies in. Then we were taken to the houses where we were billeted. After we had some lunch the lady (Miss Hudson) that was looking after us took us for a walk. We came to a park and I recognised it I said,
鈥淲e are in Ilkley this is Tittie Bottle Park!鈥
I was so pleased because I knew where we were and that my Mum and Dad would be able to visit often.
