Evacuees were posted to Brighton, my mother had two of the children. One was three and one was ten (I was nine at the time). They stayed with us for ten months, but then realized it was dangerous where we were! Sometimes I quarreled with them, sometimes we got on well, but there were a lot of them in our street. Bolder than us, coming from London! They used to teach us games, some quite naughty!

Planes coming to Brighton would drop bombs so I did have the choice to be evacuated. I had the chance to go to Yorkshire, but I decided to stay where I was.
We鈥檇 only be at school part time because there wasn鈥檛 much room in the building, due to the bombing. We鈥檇 have to alternate on different times between the boys and girls. I was at school until the war ended though.
