The dramatic flight from the Germans by an RAF evader
Tom Jones was a Navigator in the Royal Air Force he was also a trained Parachutist. Tom had some frightful stories to tell us and in one of them he was lucky to survive. It was the 27th of April 1945 Tom was engaged on a Special Operation (SOE) to Denmark when on the night of the 27th the aircraft was shot down by the Germans at Plougslund near Billand in Denmark.
This is the story of that frightful evasion in an attempt to escape capture by the Germans.
Tom's Plane was shot down, altogether there were six crew members: pilot, Navigator, Bomb aimer, Flight engineer, Wireless operator and Rear gunner. Unfortunately one of them did not survive, he was the Bomb Aimer:
Sergeant J. Ayers died on the 30th of April 1945 in a German hospital and was buried among German soldiers. He was later exhumed by the Danes and buried in a specially constructed cemetary for RAF aircrew.
Tom and the crew members didn鈥檛 know what to do, so they ran with all their life, Was there any time to be scared the answer was no.
With no where to go, Tom and his crew mates decided to hide in the woods, until they found a decent barn and realised it was much more comfortable than the woods. Lacking in food they then saw a farmer feeding the pigs as soon as the farmer turned his back, Tom was off he ran into the pig sty and punched the pig on the nose. Of course his stomach didn鈥檛 take to pig food so it took a couple of days for it to settle.

The farmer soon realised there was something the matter. The farmer investigated the barn and found Tom and his crew members hiding there. He imediatlly took them into his house and fed them with some decent food.

To this day Tom still keeps in touch with the family of this brave man i.e :
Arne Jenson
[personal details removed by moderator]
DENMARK

They send each other christmas cards and sometimes even gifts. They try and have a conversation over the phone,But Tom can only speak a little Danish and Arne no English, Though there is a connection as Arne has a Grandson who can speak English so sometimes he can translate.

Tom's biggest experience during the war, what he is really gratefull for is SURVIVING.

Tom would just like to say:
I would not like my family, or any other family to have to go through what we endured in WW2.
