I talked to my grandad who is Vernon Reinholt
Life for a child that is a REFUGEE.

What did you eat that was different than now?

I ate powdered egg, which you added water to.It came from America in shiny brown boxes.
What was it like to have a German mother?

People stared at me and were not nice to me
and they would not let me play their games.

What was it like to be a refugee?

I was 3 year's old when I was separated at from my mother, for 3 year's. The first word I said in English was (doggy).

The little boy's name was originally Werner Reinholdt, changed to Vernon Reynolds when he became British.

I am Livvy's grandad. There were lots of us who came over from Germany before the war. We were called Kinder. There were good people like the Quakers who took us in and looked after us.

Message 3 - Refugee Child

I am Mrs Reich. My father in law came on a kindertransporten from Vienna after spending 6 months in Dachau, so it was really interesting for me to hear all about Livvy's grandad.
I hope we will have time to write some more of our grandparents memories soon.
