I was born in John Wilson Street.in the East
end of greenock in February 1938. Iremember the two nights of bombing in May. Our house was not damaged, but several nearby were hit.
My father was an A.R.P. Warden , and I overheard some terrible stories of the damage. After the blitz we were taken by my mother to live with a great aunt on Bute.
This was an "Interesting" time for young boys, as the Clyde was full of ships of all types, including a Flotilla of submarines in Rothesay Bay. After the war we returned to Greenock and eventually moved into one of the new Pre-fabs on Wren Road.
