At six years old I was living in Cromhall. A searchlight battery was based at Abbotside, in Cromhall.

On my route home from school I would see members of the battery marching along returning to their HQ following ablutions at Leyhill. I would fall in with them, a hat would be placed on my head and I would march along too. At my home I would fall out while they carried on. This all happened on a regular basis so I was well known to the battery members.
