Another luxury would be custard cream biscuits 鈥� the only biscuits available would be plain arrowroot and things of that sort. If the word got around that 鈥淏rowns have got custard creams in鈥� (Browns were another family shop at the far end of Meadowbank Road) there would be a stampede, first come first served, and they only had one tin of biscuits to get through. Also next to Browns there was a Butcher, Mr Holloway, and another grocer, Mrs Osier. These three shops are now smart private residences and it鈥檚 sometimes difficult to believe that as children we would run to the shops there.
