My Grandma told me of several occasions when the all clear didn't mean it was safe to leave the shelter.
After the 'all clear' had sounded stragglers were frequently seen flying over the houses. Some of these planes would drop bombs on the unsuspecting public beneath them.
On another occasion my Grandma's family was standing out in the street after the 'all clear' and a doodlebug went flying over. Halfway across their street the engine stopped.
