My mummy got a job at the ARP station, Mapperley Road in the canteen. Following a night of heavy bombing in May 1941, all the ambulances were out. The mamager of the ARP says to Mrs. Davies, "We have to go". There was a bomb that hit Friar Lane, a shop called "Style and Mantle", a clothes shop. in the dark she got out the ambulance and saw what she thought were piles of bodies, but they were shop dummies!
