Dorothy: I was working in the aircraft factory (Franklin bombers) next to the aerodrome and we met at a dance.
Bernard: I was stationed at Harwarden airfield as an armorer, and a few of us decided to go to the dance. The girls were sitting at the table, and my eyes lit up when I saw Dorothy so I asked her to dance. (I was 20)
We started courting, and nine months later we were married at St. Marks Church, Saltney.
Dorothy: Soon after I fell for my first baby, and when she was two weeks old, she developed pneumonia, and Bernard was allowed one day embarkation leave to see her. He was posted to Burma while she was in hospital.
The next time he saw Jean she was 18 months old, and then we moved to London. Bernard was discharged from the Air Force and joined the Fire Service.
We have been married for 61 years. We have three children, 2 girls and one boy, 4 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
