My brother Albert Hinchcliffe was 19 when he won the DCM which is the distinguished combat medal. He was a sergant in the army when on 11 February 1945, his regiment was due to attack the town of Gennep in Germany. Soon after the initial attack, Albert's Platoon Commander was killed and he was made to take command. He won the medal was won for that.
