This was told to me by my father when I was quite young but I think I've got it right.My father Jack Fountain was in Italy and his platoon(is that the correct term ?) was captured by the Germans.He said that the officer ,knowing that Germany was very close to losing the war,gave them back their weapons and said"Look Tommy, if you run fast now,I'll let you go".Needless to say -Never In the Field of Human Conflict.............had so many ran so fast.I hope that German Officer made it home-he deserved to.
