I have just received information about the Heroes Return Project.
Ten million pounds is being made available from the National Lottery to enable UK residents who saw active service or who were involved with the British and Allied Armed Forces in World War Two to apply for grants so that they can revisit the theatre of war they were involved in.
The amount granted would depend on which theatre of war you wish to visit and whether you intend to take a partner and or carer.
If you are interested you should contact the Veterans Agency on telephone number 0800 169 2277 who will take your details and pass them on to the national Lottery.
You will then receive an application form and information pack so that you can apply for a grant.
If you need any more information or advice contact the Veterans Agency who also have information about tours that have been organised to battlefield areas by veterans organisations.

Message 1 - Grants for veterans

Posted on: 25 March 2004 by Trooper Tom Canning - WW2 Site Helper

Unfortunately many ww2 veterans no longer live in the U.K. and so do not qualify for this very worth while scheme, as it seems to be for people who contribute to the Lottery funds on a regular basis.

This is in stark contrast to our British Old age pensions which are cut by - in our case - by some 35% as we chose to live in Canada which, you will no doubt recall, was a colony at one time ! This insult, notwithstanding the fact that we made all our contributions whilest still working in the U.K.
It's afunny old world at times - had we moved to the USA - Germany - Italy or Japan we would be entitled to our full pension plus annual increases plus no doubt - heating allowance just like the OAp's who live in the South of Spain !
